Over the years, our firm has maintained close relations with the Arab world. More recently, in October 2022, we joined forces with a Lebanese colleague, Danny Rifaat, with whom we have been working for 25 years.

Our experience includes cases involving the region in sectors as diverse as construction, energy, distribution and defence, telecommunications, transport and international investment.

We entered into strategic alliances with Nassif Arbitration in Dubai in 2020, and with Rifaat Associates in Beirut in 2022.

  • Representing a Turkish investor against the State of Libya in an ICC arbitration arising from the termination of two large-scale infrastructure projects in Libya, in breach of the Bilateral Investment Treaty between the Republic of Turkey and Libya.
  • Representing an African State and several oil infrastructure management companies in an ICC arbitration against a Middle Eastern company for payment of penalties due to failure to perform an exclusive hydrocarbon supply contract.
  • Representing a joint venture between a Japanese engineering company and a South Korean engineering and construction company in an ICC arbitration concerning an EPC contract for the construction and relocation of a fertilizer plant in the Middle East.
  • Representing a minority shareholder and two Chinese fabric manufacturing companies in several disputes against a French company which is their business partner in China concerning the exclusion of this shareholder, a management report, and proceedings on the merits concerning allegations of unfair competition and the sudden termination of established commercial relations.
  • Representing a GSM operator in two ICC and an UNCITRAL arbitrations against a Middle Eastern State regarding the operation of one of the two local GSM networks.
  • Representing a joint venture between a European company and the Government of an Asia State in connection with the call of a first demand guarantee issued by a French bank for a gas liquefaction plant construction project.
  • Representing a Lebanon-based engineering and construction services company before the Court of Appeal of Appeal in proceedings against an Algerian oil and gas company to set aside an ICC award.
  • Representing a Middle Eastern State before the Court of Appeal of Paris in proceedings against an American company seeking to set aside an ICC award in a dispute concerning the termination of a construction contract.
  • Representing a Saudi company before the Court of Appeal of Paris in proceedings against an Asian State, seeking the annulment of an ICC award rendered in a dispute concerning a construction contract.
  • Representing a group of Qatari investors in a shareholder dispute over control of the company that owns and operates a shopping centre on the Swiss border.
  • Representing an Indian company manufacturing menthol and cocoa products in a dispute against several French insurance companies.
  • Representing a Jordanian investor in a dispute over the enforcement of a decision to repay a shareholder loan.
  • Representing a group of minority shareholders in a dispute concerning the breach of a shareholders’ agreement aimed at ensuring joint control of a bank in the Middle East.
  • Representing a company of a French defence group in an AFA arbitration against one of its subcontractors concerning the delivery of a signalling system for the Hong Kong MTR.
  • Representing a Chinese company in enforcement proceedings concerning an ICC award made against a public entity of the State of Qatar regarding a construction project in Qatar.
  • Representing a French company against a Turkish company concerning the delivery of a glass manufacturing plant in Turkey.
  • Advising an international group based in Kuwait on the acquisition of a transport and logistics group established in France, the United Kingdom and in Algeria.
  • Representing Iranian nationals, previously minority shareholders in one of the top five local mineral water producers, in an ICC arbitration against a global food company in a dispute concerning the exercise of a put option pursuant to a shareholders’ agreement.
  • Representing a Lebanese businessman in ICC proceedings against a member of the royal family of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a dispute arising from the alleged mismanagement of companies and other assets
