Danny Rifaat is a member of the Beirut and Paris Bars.  He has spent his entire career in the Gulf and the Middle East. 

For nearly 30 years, Danny has been advising and representing corporate clients based in the Gulf and the Middle East, as well as major players in the global economy with regard to their projects in the region.  Danny has developed a strong expertise in real estate, construction, telecommunications, and infrastructure.

Danny’s experience includes acting as both arbitrator and counsel in international arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the leading global arbitral institutions (ICC, LCIA), as well as the regional institutions in the Gulf (Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC), Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA), Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OCAC)), and the Middle East (Lebanese Arbitration and Mediation Centre (LAMAC) and AGCAM).

In addition, he has appeared before domestic courts in the region including in Dubai, Amman, Doha and Beirut.  Danny has also extensive experience in the prevention and management of disputes and risks, including alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, as well as a cross-cutting understanding of the legal and business issues in the Arab world.

  • Representing real estate developers in the GCC before the Qatari Courts in a dispute with subcontractors regarding the construction of four towers in Qatar.
  • Representing a European group in the telecoms sector before the English Courts in a dispute with a GCC group investing in Africa and actioning a corporate guarantee under English Law, as well as before Kuwait courts for its enforcement, and in an ICC arbitration against the operator in Africa.
  • Representing a European infrastructure company, as respondent, in multiple ICC arbitration matters under Qatari law, filed by subcontractors claiming the payment of invoices following the termination of a subcontracting agreement.
  • Representing GCC and European businessmen for the recovery of amounts owed in relation to a real estate development project in France under French and Swiss law.
  • Representing a Qatari group, member of the GCC, in an ICC arbitration (Doha, Qatar) concerning a government construction project and subcontracting issues.
  • Representing a Saudi development group in proceedings brought before Qatari Courts against its main contractor who had failed to comply with the agreed timeline and specifications of a construction project.
  • Representing a regional cinema operator in a complex litigation before Qatari Courts in relation to construction and lease matters.
  • Representing a Canadian group in a DIAC arbitration (Dubai seat, UAE) concerning a commercial agency, equity share and loss of profit.
  • Representing a multinational in a commercial agency arbitration with a Qatari agent, brought before the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration.
